The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bataan presided by Vice Governor Cris Garcia unanimously approved an ordinance establishing Teen Information Center (TIC) in the province.
Board Member Precious Manuel, Sangguniang Kabataan Bataan Federated chairperson, who authored the legislative piece, said the ordinance aims to address existing and emerging concerns of the Bataeno youths affecting their health including lack of sex education and reproductive health awareness, increasing rate of sexually transmitted infection, teenage pregnancy, mental health problems, smoking, illegal drugs and substance use and abuse, and other related issues.
The center will provide adolescent and youth-friendly counseling services led by the trained counselors. It will also conduct community orientations in barangays in coordination with the government offices or agencies concerned regarding youth concerns. The center will also conduct school-based orientations regarding youth matters. Seminars and workshops will also be conducted in coordination with appropriate government offices.
As chairman of the Committee on Youth and Sports Development, Manuel called and presided committee hearings with other members of SP for the passing of the ordinance. The TIC will be operating under the Bataan Youth Development Office.
